Questions, answered

A few things San Rafael parents ask first.

Why should your child see a board-certified pediatric dentist?

Board-certified pediatric dentists are held to the highest standards in pediatric dental care, having completed specialized training and a voluntary certification process. For Dr. Andrea Aduna, that certification reflects deep expertise and a commitment to the latest advances, which is a solid foundation for your child's lifelong oral health.

When is a good time for a child's first dental visit, and what should we expect?

The AAPD recommends an initial oral evaluation by Age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth. Your child's first visit includes a facility tour, a gentle exam with Dr. Andrea, and time to talk through brushing, flossing, and diet. For children under three, that first appointment is complimentary.

When will my child lose their first tooth?

Usually around age 6, though it varies child to child. Encourage gentle wiggling, but do not force a loose tooth out before it is ready. Everyday eating usually does the job. If it is painful or you have questions, we are happy to take a look.

When can my child brush and floss on their own?

Most children develop the coordination to brush around ages 6 to 8, with flossing following closer to 8 to 10. Even then, a little supervision keeps technique on track, and regular check-ups help us reinforce good habits.

Up to what age do you care for patients?

We typically care for patients through age 18, supporting the whole journey from the first tooth into the teen years. For individual needs, we are always glad to discuss continued care on a case by case basis.

Is the drive from San Rafael really worth it?

Most San Rafael families say absolutely. The boutique pace, specialist-led care, and a child who actually likes the dentist add up quickly. Door to door, it is roughly 12 minutes.
